Burger Triangle Hotcake Knife Details
The Burger Triangle Hotcake Knife will be available HERE Thursday, August 1st at 3pm Eastern.
"Ramirez, take your team and secure Burger Triangle!"
The Hotcake Knife originated as a one-off for a private customer a few years back. We had full creative freedom and I thought it would be funny to make a G10 version of the plastic knives you get from fast food establishments. We made a copy for ourselves, and the knife went into the G10 archives with no intention of using it again. Fast forward to earlier this year: the thought of marketing around this knife design was gnawing at me but I did not know where to take it. I spend much of my video game time playing Call of Duty: Warzone. Like most of the COD games, Warzone's landscape is littered with pockets of a fictional fast-food establishment called Burger Town. This restaurant was made into a meme in recent years, despite Burger Town's debut in the original Modern Warfare 2. The premise surrounding the meme is that a unit of Army Rangers are responding to an overwhelming invasion by Russian forces on the Eastern seaboard, more specifically Northern Virginia. The Ranger element is tasked with securing an area of operations, and the local Burger Town franchise becomes key terrain that the Rangers must secure and hold. Throughout the game the protagonist, PVT James Ramirez, is tasked by his team/squad leader, SGT Foley, to do most of the dirty work during the battle for Northern Virginia, up to and including holding down Burger Town. Many of the internet tropes include SGT Foley giving ridiculous orders to Ramirez.
"Ramirez, get me an order of hotcakes, hash browns and a medium black coffee!"
Let's move on to the knife...
We wanted this to be as close to the real thing as possible, so we decided on white G10. I was unsure how it would turn out, but IMHO white was the right choice. The knife sits at just under 6.5" overall length and has a 3.5-4" handle. The business end (where the bevel plunge line starts) is about 2.25". Like all Black Triangle G10 knives, the hotcake knife is meant to be a point-driven tool. Although there are bevels, you will not find an edge on this product. You can use it to apply butter to your hotcakes all day.
It took some time to decide on what pattern to put on the sheath. Because this was already a ridiculous idea to begin with, we opted for an all-over print of hamburgers. The sheath itself comes standard with a pocket hook and a static line. There is a hole pattern to add an RCS clip, which will be an add-on option. The knife concept is simple and offers the maximum number of carry options (pocket, static, clipped).
Each Hotcake knife comes with not one, but three Burger Triangle stickers. The stickers come in English, Arabic and Cyrillic. We chose three languages as an homage to the COD franchise, where Burger Town can be found in many countries throughout the game. We posted a teaser photo on Instagram showing all three stickers and were quickly called out by our base that the Arabic and Cyrillic were not spelled correctly. Despite our efforts to accurately lay out non-english text, we failed that mission...BUT we are going to let it ride because at this point, spelling and grammatical errors are on brand for Black Triangle. This is a huge loss for grammar nazis.
The VHS sleeve will feature our interpretation of what a feature film about this historical event would look like. The cover art depicts a fireteam of Army Rangers on the roof of a damaged Burger Triangle, preparing for a counter attack. This will be a great addition to your growing bookshelf collection of Black Triangle VHS cases.
The knife, the packaging and the branding encompass everything that I love about Black Triangle. We do what we want here, and we love to have fun. The Burger Triangle Hotcake Knife will be available on Thursday August 1st at 3pm Eastern Standard Time and will cost $80. This is a one-time only release. When they are gone, they are gone forever.
