Desert Donovan and Desert PCT-L Details

This project started as a result of a conversation with members on the Black Triangle discord about what knives/colorways/patterns to do next. The original idea was to do the PCT-L with a DCU (3-color desert camo) sheath.

I didn’t want to release just a PCT-L because not all of our customer base subscribes to the idea of a push dagger. Donovan hadn’t been used in a special release in a while, and we wanted to get our latest Donovan update out into the world. Adding a divot to our non-wrapped knives allows for better retention, rather than relying on the friction between the thermoplastic and G10. The "click" of the thermoplastic indentation meeting the divot in the knife lets the user know that the knife is inserted correctly.

The color of the G10 is called Coyote Brown. The Kydex supplier had limited quantities of the DCU, so we had to find a second camo pattern. We already had DST, AOR2, 6-Color Desert (Chocolate Chip) in 500D Cordura, the obvious choice for print was MC Arid; a color we don’t currently have (but should!) in Cordura. DCU is mostly associated with GWOT, so adding Multicam Arid made sense, having been used by USSOF in Iraq and Syria in recent years (pictured below). 

Please note: Because the DCU camo pattern is not as "busy" as other patterns, there will be some sheaths that have more solid colors than others. we cannot sacrifice 25% of the already limited supply of Kydex because someone might get upset about how little it looks like DCU. It is stupid that I have to even address this, but here we are. You get what you get and if you have a problem, then don't buy DCU.

The VHS design idea honestly came at me fast and late to the game. I came up with this idea a little over a week ago. After a little brainstorming, I decided upon using a scorpion silhouette and backfill it with both camo patterns to differentiate the sheaths. I like the idea of a desert predator and the PCT-L in a way, reminds me of a scorpion.

The release will be two product pages, one for the Desert Donovan and one for the Desert PCT-L. Each product page will have a drop-down menu with “DCU 3-Color Desert” and “MC Arid”. Please be confident in your choice.
