Why Would Anyone Put A Metal Clip on Our Non-Metallic Knives?
It took me a long time to accept the fact that there are some instances where its okay to put a metal clip and metal hardware on our 100% metal-free knives and their sheaths.
Our knives are designed to be carried in places where metal detectors preclude the use of firearms or steel knives. Because they are non-metallic, they carry other properties. The knives will not corrode in maritime environments, and they are non-conductive/non-magnetic.
The most notable property in my opinion, is their weight-or lack thereof. The average weight of a Black Triangle G10 knife in its sheath is less than 3oz.
The problem with our metal-free system is the injection-molded IWB clips just don't have the same grip and strength that a metal clip has. I have and still do carry my Black Triangle with a plastic clip inside my gym shorts on my way to jiu jitsu. I am confident enough with my tool to be able to pull this off. If I was going for a run or doing high-intensity activity and wanted to keep that thing on me, it would be a different story.
Good news is, there is a solution, but ONLY if you can recognize the why behind what we are doing. Putting a metal clip on our G10 knives/sheaths removes its non-metallic properties and makes it vulnerable to metal detectors. If this clip option is something you're interested in, I would recommend either getting an extra sheath made just for the metal clip, or dedicating a knife/sheath with a metal clip.
Adding a metal clip to an already light knife gives you the ability to have a defensive tool during workouts when carrying a heavy firearm or steel knife becomes cumbersome or carries the risk of flopping around during said activity. Depending on the knife, there could be a 2-4oz increase in carrying a steel knife to the gym or on a run. You may not even notice Black Triangle G10 and a DCC clip in your gym shorts but it will be there when you need it.
