Omega-1: Five Years in the Making

BLUF: Omega-1 Presale begins October 30th.

Also known as the Donovan Combat Knife, the [Omega-1] is the materialization of an idea that dates back to 2019.

The original concept was called the Partisan Toolkit, a fictional collection of four knives and improvised weapons inspired by the clandestine combat equipment of the mid-20th century. Omega-1 was the steel combat knife, Omega-2 was a pitchfork tine wrapped in jute, Omega-3 was a G10 spike, and Omega-4 was a compact punch dagger. The idea was to create something that looked like it belonged in an imaginary historical collection, the sort of equipment that might have been assembled out of necessity rather than issued through conventional channels.

While the concept dates back to 2019, development of the Omega-1 began in 2021. I've had a 3D-printed model sitting around for years, occasionally revisiting it but never quite getting the project off the ground. Earlier this year, we finally started having serious conversations about bringing it into production.

Those familiar with Black Triangle will recognize the design from our Donovan G10 knife. The Omega-1 takes that familiar profile and brings it into steel, something we've wanted to do for quite some time.

Our production shop is built around manufacturing G10 knives, and we're not quite equipped to handle steel production in-house (yet). Rather than put the project off any longer, we've partnered with Abaddon Knives, who will be handling the steel work in its entirety. Working with Abaddon was an easy choice as a partner. They produce quality products and have helped us out in the past when we did a charity knife for a friend.

This collaboration allows us to bring a design we've been sitting on for years into production while continuing to focus on what we do best here at Black Triangle.

The Knife Itself

Omega-1 is our modern interpretation of the Fairbairn-Sykes Dagger. It bears a close resemblance to the Donovan G10 knife with a couple of added features. We've added quillions at the hilt to protect your fingers from this extremely sharp dagger. On the handle side of the quillions are some aggressive jimping. There is also jimping on the pommel to aid in tactile feedback- you know where the knife sits in your hand by touch. The Omega-1 has a flat ground on both sides, giving the knife the distinct diamond shape commonly found in daggers.

Steel Type: 52100 (please see below for why we chose this)

Rockwell Hardness: 61

Finish: Graphite Black Cerakote

Thickness:.140"

Overall Length: 7.625"

Blade Length (tip to hilt): 3.25"

Handle: 4"

Handle Material: .250" black machine-contoured G10

Sheath: Black vacuum-formed Boltaron with option for Discreet Carry Concepts Mod-4 1.5" or 1.75" clip

Our first choice in steel was Magnacut, however USA-made Magnacut is in finite supply and tarrifs for imported Magnacut make it difficult to keep the knife at a reasonable price point. We've entrusted steel selection to Abaddon and their choice for this project is 52100. This steel type has a balance of hardness, toughness and edge stability. In the future we will explore other steel types, but this is our choie for the Omega-1.

Why a Presale?

Turns out, steel knives are expensive to make. We are an extremely small business with a small budget. Doing a pre-sale affords us the ability not to over purchase materials and lets us order extras to have on hand for extended availability. The big, hairy audacious goal is to have a fully-functional steel knife division in-house that maintains a steady inventory of steel knife SKUs, just as we have for our G10 line. We anticipate a 4-5 month lead time (I know, I know), but we always try to beat that deadline. We thank you in advance for being patient and supporting us as we take a giant leap as a company.

The Lead Time

Orders will not ship immediately. Abaddon's lead time to ship to us is 90-120 days. We will be making the scales and sheaths and doing final assembly when the knives arrive to us, trying to reduce the amount of time it takes to get the final product out the door to you.

The Bottom Line

The Omega-1 represents something a little different for us. We've spent nearly a decade building our reputation around non-metallic knives, but we've never believed that every knife needs to be made from G10. Sometimes steel is the right material for the job.

After years of sketches, prototypes and conversations, the Omega-1 is finally becoming a reality.

The Omega-1 is $350 and the pre-sale goes live Friday, October 30, 2026. Omega-1 is sold exclusively at blktriangle.com.
